entrepreneurship@UBC’s Social Venture stream supports impact-driven entrepreneurs providing them with the tailored programming, mentorship and resources to help them succeed

To join the Social Venture stream, ventures need to be a part of one of our foundational programs: Lab2Launch or CORE. 

Program Summary

 

entrepreneurship@UBC's Social Venture stream is for entrepreneurs whose main goal is to solve a pressing social or environmental problem. Our mission is to help social entrepreneurs  succeed by providing them with programming tailored to the unique needs of a social venture  including workshops, mentorship, access to networks and a supportive peer community.  

What you get

As a Social Venture, you will first join one of our flagship venture building programs: CORE or Lab2Launch. In addition to that foundational programming, Social Ventures receive: 

 

  • Executive mentorship from social entrepreneurs, industry leaders, advisors and subject matter experts

  • A collaborative and supportive community of like-minded innovators and entrepreneurs

  • Special programming to develop new skills in impact measurement, impact communication, and insights into the global impact investing world

  • Access to guest speakers with a broad range of social venture experience 

  • Access to co-working space, onsite boardrooms and conference rooms

  • Opportunity to join entrepreneurship@UBC’s venture alumni network

Workshops

The Social Venture stream provides teams the support and expertise needed to build your business, helping you to launch a venture with impact. The stream will take you through customer discovery to identify your key customers and will help educate you on finding right investors for your venture at every level, teaching you what it means to be investment ready at each stage. 

You will work regularly one-on-one with our team of mentors and Entrepreneurs in Residence to identify and work on the goals and milestones most critical to your particular venture.

Program  Eligibility

We are looking for passionate entrepreneurs with bold ideas that could solve a major social, environmental or economic problem.  You have a for-profit business model that you believe could scale to achieve sustainable impact. 

To be eligible, you and your team must have ALL of the following criteria:

  • Your concept addresses a specific social, environmental or economic problem, you have a defined theory of change and are willing to measure and work to maximize your impact.

  • You have a motivated team of at least two people who are receptive to coaching and are aware of and committed to the time required to build a new venture. 

  • At least one of the team members is a UBC student, faculty, staff member, or a recent UBC alumnus (within 5 years of graduation). 

  • The team is aware of and committed to the time required to build a new venture.  Ventures will be accepted only if they fully commit to the program and their venture.

  • Commitment:​
    • Active engagement with cohort 

    • In-person participation in bi-weekly sessions
