entrepreneurship@UBC’s Climate Venture Studio stream supports UBC entrepreneurs that are developing solutions to the climate emergency with specialized programming, executive mentorship and community engagement to help them build breakthrough climate solutions.
To join the Social Venture stream, ventures need to be a part of one of our foundational programs: Lab2Launch or CORE.

Program Summary
entrepreneurship@UBC’s Climate Venture Studio stream is for UBC researchers, scientists and founders working on scientific or technological innovation or disruption that tackles a widespread climate issue. The stream works hands-on with ventures to identify climate market opportunities, nurture high-potential climate solutions emerging from UBC research and help entrepreneurs build high-impact ventures.
The Climate Venture Studio supports the development of high-impact climate solutions in areas including coasts & oceans; energy; mining & minerals; industrial processes; food, agriculture & land use; resilient communities; fresh water; health & education; biodiversity & habitat; bridges & infrastructure; engineered carbon sinks; transportation; and other interdisciplinary initiatives.

You will join a climate solutions community designed to help further develop and launch the next generation of climate ventures from UBC.

In December 2019, UBC declared a climate emergency citing the urgent need to shift to alternative energy sources through rapid and far-reaching transformations across all economic sectors. entrepreneurship@UBC has a proven track record of developing climate based ventures into game changing solutions, working with innovators, faculties and leaders across the university and provincial landscape to propel innovative solutions into the world that have economic, social and environmental impact.
The Climate Venture Studio leverages entrepreneurship@UBC’s expertise in developing climate-focused ventures and is designed to layer on additional Entrepreneurs in Residence, industry leaders and experts in our community to help drive climate ideas to impact. The stream is jointly led by Paul Needham and Shannon Bard, entrepreneurship@UBC Entrepreneurs in Residence who are accomplished innovators and environmental advocates who spearhead acutely focused climate solutions programming.
Program Eligibility
We are looking for researchers, scientists and founders working on breakthrough solutions to the climate emergency. To be eligible, you and your team must be accepted into one of our foundational programs, CORE or Lab2Launch, and working on a venture idea with high potential for large scale climate impact.

You are motivated and receptive to coaching and are aware of and committed to the time required to build a new venture.

Either yourself, or at least one of your team members is a UBC student, faculty, staff member, or a recent UBC alumnus (within 5 years of graduation).

You and/or your team is aware of and committed to the time required to build a new venture. Ventures will be accepted only if they fully commit to the program and their venture.
